Scripture: Acts 15:36-18:22

Five times in these chapters the missionaries are invited into peoples’ homes:

  • Lydia’s (16:15)
  • Philippian jailer’s (16:34)
  • Jason’s (17:5)
  • Priscilla and Aquila’s (18:3)
  • Justus’ (18:7)

The gospel Paul was preaching was constantly under attack, but these people took him and his message into their homes, guarded it, shared it with their families, and sent it and the missionaries back out with encouragement!

We can follow their example.

Whether it’s actual missionaries (that would include any Jesus follower who cares to share the gospel), or the Word of God and the message of the gospel itself, we should bring these people and those words into our homes. We should teach these things to our children and our extended families. We should send each other out in encouragement to keep living lives of active faith.

  • Protect the Gospel as you would any precious belonging.
  • Cherish it in your homes.
  • Take a stand in your home for the Word of God.
  • And make a difference in the world outside.

Journal: Write out some ideas to have more of the Word in your home: family devotion time, times of thanksgiving at meals, challenges for reading the Bible or sharing with others. What ideas do you have?
