Scripture: James 4

We can be friends with the world or friends with God…not both.

Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

Vs. 4

God wants us to choose Him.

Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture says, “He yearns jealously over the spirit that he has made to dwell in us”?

Vs. 5

I like the next line:

But he gives more grace.

Vs. 6

Unlimited grace.

  • Submit yourselves to God
  • Resist the devil
  • Draw near to God
  • Cleanse your hands
  • Purify your hearts
  • Be wretched and mourn and weep
  • Humble yourselves before the Lord.

Come close.

13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— 14 yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.

We never know what a day may bring forth.

“If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.”

Vs. 15

He is in control.

Come close to Him.

Journal: Write a prayer submitting your day to God. Submit tomorrow to Him too… and the next day. Submit your plan to His. Let His will be your will.

Scripture: 2 Timothy 3 and 4

1 But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty.

2 “For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, 4 treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God”

5 having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power.

14 “But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it 15 and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.”

  • preach the word

…with complete patience and teaching.

Scripture: 1 Timothy 3 and 4

In this letter to Timothy, Paul lays out some qualifications for deacons and overseers of the church, stating that the church is “a pillar and buttress of the truth.”

He then reminds us of its foundation.

He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated by the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.

Vs. 16

(That’s Jesus.)

He goes on to warn Timothy that some will be deceived by spirits and demons. And instructs him:

7 Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness;

Just as we train our bodies with exercise for physical strength we must also train our souls for godliness and spiritual strength.

We need to be immersed in the Truth, so when deceitful spirits attack (and these attacks come every day!) we will be ready to fight the lies.

Journal: Write down any lies you’ve believed. Then look up scripture that combats each one. Memorize these scriptures. Pray for eyes to see the truth.

Move: Now it’s time to exercise the body:
