Scripture: 1 Timothy 3 and 4

In this letter to Timothy, Paul lays out some qualifications for deacons and overseers of the church, stating that the church is “a pillar and buttress of the truth.”

He then reminds us of its foundation.

He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated by the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.

Vs. 16

(That’s Jesus.)

He goes on to warn Timothy that some will be deceived by spirits and demons. And instructs him:

7 Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness;

Just as we train our bodies with exercise for physical strength we must also train our souls for godliness and spiritual strength.

We need to be immersed in the Truth, so when deceitful spirits attack (and these attacks come every day!) we will be ready to fight the lies.

Journal: Write down any lies you’ve believed. Then look up scripture that combats each one. Memorize these scriptures. Pray for eyes to see the truth.

Move: Now it’s time to exercise the body:

Scripture: 1 Kings 3

If you’ve been to Sunday School then you know this story.

The Lord gives Solomon a blank check. He can ask for whatever He wants.

Solomon asks for an understanding mind so that he will be able to govern his kingdom well.

Let’s pray this for the leaders of our country and the world.

Let’s pray that they will have understanding minds to govern us. That they can discern good and evil. That they will fear God as Solomon did.

Journal: Write a prayer for our leaders.

Move: Take a rest day. Rest your body and your spirit.

If you didn’t get your homework done you can take the day to make up a run:

Praise the Lord, and just show up!

Scripture: Colossians 3

There is so much in this chapter.

There is so much we, as believers, can apply right to our lives today:

First:

3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

Therefore

Put to death:

  • sexual immorality
  • impurity
  • passion
  • evil desire
  • covetousness
  • anger
  • wrath
  • malice
  • slander
  • obscene talk
  • lies

Because you “have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.”

Own that.

And put on:

  • compassionate hearts
  • kindness
  • humility
  • meekness
  • patience

And BEAR WITH ONE ANOTHER…

FORGIVE.

And LOVE…

14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.

Forgiveness + Love = PEACE

“And be thankful.”

Let me say that again…

“And be thankful.”

And fill up your tool belt with TRUTH, because the fiery darts of the devil will not cease in this life. You need the Word to fight Satan’s lies!

…teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

The Word is living and active! Take it into your heart! Fill your mind and soul with Life! And, one more time, give thanks.

Finally:

No more trying to please people.

Please the Creator instead; people will benefit from the run-off.

Oh, and give thanks.

Journal: You guessed it…write a prayer of thanksgiving. Count your blessings.

Move: Long run today. If you can, run 8 miles. Does that seem daunting? Go out for 1 hour and 20 minutes and run/walk. Still too much? Go for an hour. Still no? 30 minutes.

Just move.

{Beginner’s run #15: Walk 5 minutes to warm-up, then run 7 minute/walk 1 minute x3, then walk 5 minutes to cool-down.}

Praise the Lord, and keep showing up!
