Scripture: Deuteronomy 4
Our God is near to us just as He is near to Israel:
For what great nation is there that has a god so near to it as the Lord our God is to us, whenever we call upon him?
Deuteronomy 4:7
The Lord wants Israel to remember where they came from. He wants them remember His actions and His words before them. He wants them to obey Him and to teach all of this to their children. He wants our obedience as well…He wants us to teach our children His word.
“Only take care, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things that your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. Make them known to your children and your children’s children—
Deuteronomy 4:9
God knows their weaknesses. He warns them to watch themselves. He knows are weaknesses too. He gives us His word to warn us and to help us.
Take care, lest you forget the covenant of the Lord your God, which he made with you, and make a carved image, the form of anything that the Lord your God has forbidden you.
Deuteronomy 4:23
He wants Israel to serve Him alone. He’s jealous for them. He wants them to seek Him. He’s jealous for our souls as well…and if we seek Him, we will find Him.
But from there you will seek the Lord your God and you will find him, if you search after him with all your heart and with all your soul.
Deuteronomy 4:29
He also knows that Israel will fall to temptation. He knows we will fall. He knows we need Him.
For the Lord your God is a merciful God. He will not leave you or destroy you or forget the covenant with your fathers that he swore to them.
Deuteronomy 4:31
He is the only God for Israel, and He’s the only God for us.
He’s the only God. Period.
