Scripture: Hebrews 3 and 4

This verse and chapters always make me think of my friend Crystal. She did a talk at a women’s event we had at church and she taught from this passage. She pointed out that if the Bible repeats itself, we better take note.

The quote from the picture above is in Hebrews 3:7-8; 3:15; 4:7, and is quoted from Psalm 95:7-8.

When David writes these words in the Psalms he’s expanding on the story of Israel’s rebellion in the wilderness and the fact that they weren’t allowed to enter God’s rest in the promised land.

In Hebrews we’re encouraged anew because the promise of God’s rest (though revoked as punishment for Israel’s rebellion) is actually still standing if we do not “fall by the same sort of disobedience” (Heb. 4:11).

This is the true sabbath rest. It’s an eternal rest that we can enjoy now.

11 Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience. 12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.13 And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account. 14 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Heb. 4:11-16

Today, if you hear His voice, do not rebel, but approach His throne with confidence, and take your rest in Him.

Journal: I recently listened to a podcast with an interview of Tauren Wells, the musician/song writer. He spoke of Sabbath rest and how it’s so humbling. We have to rest in God everyday…realizing that all our hard work does not make the world spin, God does. Have a listen and write a prayer to God in response to these scriptures:

Move: Here are a couple more of my old pins. First, a little cutesy motivation:

And then the real work:

Praise the Lord, and keep showing up!
