Daily Dig: 1/22/21

Scripture: 2 Samuel 1

In this chapter we see David mourning the deaths of Saul, king of Israel, and Saul’s son Jonathan.

It makes sense that he would mourn for Jonathan…they had been the closest of friends.

But it’s harder to understand why he equally mourns for Saul…Saul had spent a lot of his energy trying to hunt down David and kill him.

Maybe that’s why God says that David shares His heart:

22 And when he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king, of whom he testified and said, ‘I have found in David the son of Jesse a man after my heart, who will do all my will.’

Acts 13:22

David loved God and he respected that God had appointed Saul as King before him. But more than that we see a picture of God’s heart in the fact that David could love someone who gave him no love in return.

That’s God’s love for us…He loves us even when we’re unlovable.

Let’s show that love to others.

Journal: Write a prayer for one of your “enemies”… or for someone who gives you a hard time. Thank the Lord that He has a purpose even for our persecutions.

Move: Go for a mid-distance run (whatever that would mean for you). I usually do 5 miles.

Still can’t run? Keep walking…adding in running when you can. Can’t get outside? Get on the elliptical or treadmill, or jump rope and do lunges in the house. Don’t make excuses…make options.

{Beginner’s run #10: warm-up with a 5- minute walk, then run 5 minutes/walk 1 minute x5, then cool-down with a 5- minute walk.}

P.S. Don’t forget to stretch.

Praise the Lord, and just show up!
