Daily Dig: 1/3/20

Scripture: Proverbs 1

“There is no better way to learn to read the Bible than to read the Bible.” – David Mathis

I read that on the @desiringgod Instagram feed and gave it a little giggle. It’s over-simplified, but it’s true. God’s given us His word, full of knowledge and wisdom, all we have to do is open it and read it.

Read it humbly, with fear and wonder at the might of the Lord, and let the Spirit within you open the eyes of your heart to understand.

It’s the beginning of knowledge that lasts beyond this life.

Journal: Start digging deeper with your Bible reading. Take the passages we read here and in your journal note who’s speaking, what they’re saying, when and where they’re saying, why they’re saying it, and how is it being said or done. These are the “5 Ws & an H” I learned through doing Precept Bible Studies. You can apply them to any passage of writing. You may not be able to answer every question right away, but it’s a starting point to greater understanding.

And, of course, pray. Pray for understanding…you can’t do this on your own.

Move: On Fridays I’m at the gym all morning. I’ve grown to love indoor cycling. I like cycle/tone classes that mix the bike with weights, and I love riding the Peloton bike at our YMCA.

So, two options for you:

  • If you have access to a bike…indoor/outdoor, a class, or in your basement…get on it! 30 minutes of riding.
  • If not, try a workout with a mix of cardio and weights, like this one:

Give it all a try and let me know how it goes!

Praise the Lord, and just keep showing up!
